Connect Cursor to FreshlyCited MCP

Cursor connects to remote MCP servers over HTTP and supports OAuth, so you can sign in with your FreshlyCited login or use an API key from an environment variable.

The story · 3 steps
Get an API keyFree plan: 10 free links to try (once you verify your email), then 100 free checks a month, no card.

One-click install

Open this link on a computer with Cursor installed: Add FreshlyCited to Cursor. Cursor shows the server and asks you to confirm; it signs in with OAuth the first time a tool runs.

mcp.json (OAuth)

Add FreshlyCited to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (this project):

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "freshlycited": {
      "url": "https://freshlycited.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

mcp.json with an API key

Keep the key in an environment variable instead of the file:

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "freshlycited": {
      "url": "https://freshlycited.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:FRESHLYCITED_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}
bash
export FRESHLYCITED_API_KEY=ipk_YOUR_KEY

API keys are created under API keys in the FreshlyCited app and shown once. A key only sees its own workspace and the clients under it, with the key's role.

Check it works

Ask: "Call FreshlyCited's get_started tool." You should see your workspace, role and credit balance. If the client says it can't connect, see Authentication for what each error means.
