v2.1.0, shipped Sat Oct 17, 2026: 11 added, 3 changed, 2 docs.

v2.1.0 changes how you pay and adds a second engine. You now pay only for links Google indexes, verified sites notify Bing as well as Google, and AI assistants can use FreshlyCited directly.

Added11 changes

  • Pay only for indexed links. Each link you send reserves one index credit. We re-check it on days 1, 3 and 7; the credit is used only once Google shows the page, and if it still isn't indexed after the day-7 re-check, the credit comes back automatically. Pages that block indexing themselves (404s, noindex, redirects and similar) are flagged by a free pre-flight check before you send.
  • Two kinds of credits. Index credits for sending links, check credits for index checks (a Live check costs 5). Your existing balance moved over as check credits, one for one.
  • A free plan, with packs and Agency plans listed. Free gives you 10 free links to try, then 100 free checks a month, no card. Packs and the Agency Starter, Pro and Scale plans (client workspaces, white-label reports and, on Pro and Scale, AI-assistant access) are on the pricing section; online payments open soon.
  • Refresh anyway. Links Google already shows are skipped by default and use no credit. If you've updated one and want it sent again, Refresh anyway sends it for one index credit, with no credit back, because we can't see when Google re-crawls a page it already has.
  • A clearer free site check. The homepage check now takes each of your newest pages through three steps (can Google crawl it, is it in Google's index, does Google's AI Overview cite it) and shows the exact search behind every answer, with a link to run it yourself.
  • IndexNow for verified sites. Verify a site once on the new Sites page, and pushes for its pages are also sent to Bing and other IndexNow engines such as Yandex. The job drawer shows a Bing column that says Sent to Bing: IndexNow tells Bing about a page, it doesn't confirm Bing indexed it. IndexNow doesn't reach Google.
  • Connect Claude.ai and ChatGPT (Agency Pro and Scale). The MCP server supports OAuth 2.1, so you can add FreshlyCited as a connector without pasting an API key. Connected apps are listed in your account, each with a Disconnect button.
  • Rate limits you can see. Every API key and connection has a per-minute and per-day quota; going over returns 429 with a Retry-After header. MCP calls that would spend a lot of credits ask you to confirm first.
  • HTML sitemap at /sitemap: every public page in one list.
  • Privacy policy and terms (first drafts) at /privacy and /terms, and a cookie choice for analytics where the law asks for one.
  • This changelog, with an RSS feed.

Changed3 changes

  • Real dates on every guide. Guides show when they were first published and when they were last really updated, and the sitemaps carry the same dates.
  • Every guide tells its story in three animated steps next to the headline.
  • Security headers. Every page now sends a Content-Security-Policy and a Permissions-Policy.

Docs2 changes

  • A docs hub at /docs with quickstarts for each AI client, a reference for every MCP tool and REST route, and recipes.
  • Machine-readable docs: an OpenAPI 3.1 spec, llms-full.txt with every docs page in one file, and a Markdown version of each docs page.
