Best AI visibility tools for tracking AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity
AI visibility tools run a fixed set of prompts on AI engines such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, then report how often your brand is mentioned or your pages are cited, and how that compares with competitors. They differ mainly in engine coverage, prompt limits and price.
This guide covers 12 AI visibility tools and free reports, grouped by who they suit, with prices and engine coverage checked on each vendor's own site as of October 2026. Prices run from free to custom enterprise contracts. All of these tools measure the result. None of them makes a page crawlable or current, so we cover that gap too.
How we chose these tools, and our disclosure
We included tools whose main job is tracking brand mentions or citations in AI answers, that publish what they track, and that are actively sold as of October 2026. Every fact comes from the vendor's official site, pricing page or documentation, checked on October 16, 2026. We didn't use review sites, affiliate links or ratings, and we haven't scored tools we haven't measured.
Selection criteria:
Tracks AI answers directly, not just classic rankings.
Publishes engine coverage, so you know which AI surfaces it watches.
Clear pricing model, or a clear statement that pricing is custom.
Covers a range of budgets, including the free first-party reports from Microsoft and Google.
Tools are grouped by the audience each one suits, not ranked. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, we say so rather than guess.
What AI visibility tools measure
AI visibility tools measure how often AI answers mention your brand or cite your URLs for a set of prompts you choose, usually checked daily. Most also report share of voice against competitors, which sources the engines cite, and sentiment.
Typical metrics:
Metric
What it tells you
Mentions
How often your brand name appears in answers
Citations
How often your URLs are linked as sources
Share of voice
Your mentions or citations against named competitors
Cited sources
Which domains and pages the engines cite for your prompts
Prompt-level history
How a single prompt's answer changes over time
Two cautions apply to every tool here. AI answers vary between runs, by location and by account, so results are samples, not exact counts; read them as trends. And prompt sets are chosen by you, so a tool's "visibility score" is only as good as the prompts behind it. For the method behind tracking, see how to track AI citations.

Tools for small teams and solo SEOs
For small teams, the best starting point is the free first-party reports, then one low-cost tracker for the engines your audience actually uses.
08
Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance
AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools is part of Microsoft's free webmaster service. Announced in public preview on February 10, 2026, it shows when your pages are cited in Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations, with total citations, average cited pages, grounding queries, page-level citation activity and trends. It's first-party citation data from a major engine, but it covers Microsoft surfaces only, and citations aren't clicks. Our AI Performance report guide explains how to read it.
09
Google Search Console
Google Search Console is free, but it has no separate AI report. Google says sites appearing in AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode "are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console" and reported in the Performance report under the Web search type.
10

Check the page for your region. It suits teams already on Ahrefs.
What these tools can't do: make your pages crawled and current
AI visibility tools measure whether you're cited; none of them gets a page crawled, indexed or refreshed in the index. That step comes first. Google says a page must be "indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet" to be a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode (Google Search Central), and that crawling "can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks" (Google).
That matters when a tracker shows a gap. If a prompt cites a competitor's comparison page and not your newer one, the first question is whether Google has seen your page at all. If you updated your pricing last week and AI answers still quote the old price, the index may simply be behind.
This is where FreshlyCited (our product) fits, as an action layer rather than a tracker. FreshlyCited helps Google discover and index the pages, posts and backlinks you publish or update sooner, so they become eligible for Google Search, AI Overviews and AI Mode, then re-checks and shows you what Google has indexed. It checks which of your pages and links Google has seen, pushes only the ones it can't see, re-checks the pushed links on days 1, 3 and 7, and gives you a shareable report (your logo on Agency plans; fully white-label on Agency Pro and Scale). You pay with index credits that are used only for links that get indexed (pricing). Its checks and pushes are Google-focused. For sites you verify by hosting an IndexNow key file, it can also submit URLs to IndexNow for AI answers, which shares them with participating engines including Bing, the index behind Microsoft Copilot and Bing's AI answers. It doesn't submit to ChatGPT, Perplexity or other assistants, which use their own crawlers and search partners, and it doesn't track citations, so pair it with one of the tools above. See how to get pages crawled before you track them.
AI answers cite what's been crawled, and they lean toward pages that are kept current. Being crawled sooner makes a page eligible sooner; whether it's cited is still each engine's call, based on quality, authority and relevance.
How to choose
Choose by the engines your audience uses, the number of prompts and brands you need to track, and whether you already pay for an SEO suite.
Start free. Turn on Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance and read Search Console's Performance report. Both are first-party data.
List the engines that matter. If your buyers use ChatGPT and Google AI, you don't need 17 engines. Check that each engine you need is included, not an add-on.
Count prompts, then multiply. Prompts × engines × check frequency drives cost on most tools. Start with 15 to 50 prompts that map to real buying questions.
Use what you already have. Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking customers can add AI tracking to an existing account.
Fix eligibility before you optimize. Make sure the pages you want cited are indexed and current, then track.

Written for FreshlyCited, which helps Google and Bing find new and updated pages sooner. About FreshlyCited
No. It doesn't track citations. FreshlyCited handles the step these tools assume for Google: it checks whether Google has indexed your pages and links, pushes the ones it hasn't, and for sites you verify also sends URLs to Bing through IndexNow, free. It doesn't submit to ChatGPT or Perplexity. Use a visibility tool to see whether you're cited.
Are AI visibility tools accurate?
They sample answers to a set of prompts you choose. AI answers vary between runs, locations and accounts, so treat the results as trends, not exact counts.
Is there a free AI visibility tool?
Yes, two first-party options. Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report (public preview) shows citations in Copilot and Bing's AI summaries, and Google Search Console includes AI Overviews and AI Mode traffic in its Web search results, without a separate AI report.
