SEO MCP servers: what each one does and how to connect it
An SEO MCP server connects an AI assistant such as Claude or Cursor to an SEO tool through MCP (Model Context Protocol: a standard way for AI assistants to use a tool directly). As of October 2026, Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking run hosted servers for keyword and backlink data. AI visibility trackers and indexing services offer their own.
That matters because an SEO agent (an AI assistant that runs SEO tasks by calling these tools) can only do what its servers allow: one server can research a keyword, another can say whether ChatGPT mentions you, and another can check whether Google has indexed the page. This guide covers 12 servers in four groups, with what each exposes, how it signs in, what plan it needs and how to install it.
How do SEO MCP servers compare?
SEO MCP servers differ mainly in the job they do, how you sign in, and which plan includes them. All details below come from each vendor's own documentation, repository or pricing page, as of October 2026 (checked on October 17, 2026). Servers are grouped by job and listed alphabetically within each group, not ranked.

Which MCP servers give an agent keyword and backlink data?
The big SEO suites expose their research data through hosted MCP servers. They're the servers to connect if your agent needs search volumes, keyword ideas, backlinks or competitor data. They're listed alphabetically.
01
Ahrefs MCP
Ahrefs says its MCP "lets AI agents securely access the Ahrefs API and enrich their answers with real Ahrefs data" and that the hosted server is for "users with a Lite plan or higher" (Ahrefs docs).
Tools: organised in groups you can choose with a tools= URL parameter, including site-explorer-overview, site-explorer-reports, keywords-explorer, serp-overview, rank-tracker, site-audit, brand-radar-simple, brand-radar-entities, web analytics groups and gsc (Search Console data) (Ahrefs: tool categories). If your client caps the tool count, tools=essentials loads a curated set.
Auth: you approve a consent screen, which creates a dedicated key tagged with MCP scope; you can also generate an MCP key by hand. Ahrefs' help center notes "API keys and MCP keys are not interchangeable" (Ahrefs Help).
Pricing: Lite is listed at $129/month with "API and MCP access" (Ahrefs pricing). The help center lists 200,000 API units a month and 100 rows per request on Lite, and says "One API call costs a minimum of 50 units".
Limits:"Using the external MCP endpoint via custom scripts, bridges, or standalone HTTP/JSON-RPC clients is unsupported and not permitted."
Install (Claude Code):claude mcp add ahrefs https://api.ahrefs.com/mcp/mcp -t http, then run /mcp and authenticate.
02
SE Ranking MCP
SE Ranking's server at https://api.seranking.com/mcp exposes four of its APIs: the Data API (keyword research, backlinks, domain analysis, SERP data), the Project API (rank tracking, audits, competitors), the Local Marketing API and the SE Visible API for AI visibility projects (SE Ranking).
Auth:"OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration", or an API key in an X-Api-Key header. SE Ranking notes that "Restricted or read-only API keys aren't available yet", so a key has the same access as your account.
Plan:"The data available to you depends on your subscription. Not every API endpoint is available through MCP." Your account needs API access.
Pricing: the Core plan lists at $129/month ($103.20 a month billed annually) with 25K API credits and MCP, as of October 2026 (SE Ranking pricing).
Install (Claude Code):claude mcp add --transport http se-ranking https://api.seranking.com/mcp, then /mcp to sign in.
03
Semrush MCP
Semrush says its server "provides AI agents with secure access to Semrush's public APIs": all SEO API endpoints, the Trends API (depending on your Trends subscription) and the read-only Projects API methods, so it can't create projects or change settings (Semrush developer docs).
Auth:"OAuth is the default MCP server authentication approach"; agents without OAuth can send Authorization: Apikey YOUR_API_KEY.
Plan: for SEO data, Semrush One Starter, Semrush One Pro+, SEO Classic Pro or SEO Classic Guru, which "include 50,000 API units"; Business and Advanced plans need an API units package. Trends API plans include MCP.
Pricing: the pricing page lists "MCP access" on Starter, shown at $165.17 a month billed annually, as of October 2026 (Semrush pricing).
Limits:"Requests made through Semrush MCP use the same API units as direct API requests."
Install (Claude Code):claude mcp add semrush https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp -t http, then authenticate from /mcp.
Which MCP servers track visibility in AI answers?
AI visibility trackers run a set of prompts in AI assistants on a schedule and record mentions, citations and sentiment. Their MCP servers let an agent read those results and, in some cases, change the tracking setup. For the trackers themselves, see our comparison of AI visibility trackers.
04
Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI's server is at https://data.otterly.ai/mcp and covers "four tool categories: Workspaces & engines, Brand reports, GEO audits, and Write tools", with write tools needing write permission (Otterly.AI Help). GEO means generative engine optimization: making your content visible in answers written by generative AI.
Auth: it "authenticates entirely via OAuth 2.0, you do not need to pass an API key".
Pricing: the pricing page lists "MCP access" on Standard ($189/month, 2,000 MCP requests a month) and Premium ($489/month, 5,000 requests), and none on Lite, as of October 2026 (Otterly.AI pricing).
Clients: Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor and n8n are named.
05
Peec AI
Peec AI's server at https://api.peec.ai/mcp lets an agent check brand visibility "across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Grok", compare competitors and inspect cited sources (Peec AI docs).
Tools: its tools reference lists 51 read tools and 48 write tools, and says "Tool calls are rate limited to 1,000 calls per minute per user" (Peec AI: tools reference).
Auth: OAuth 2.0 or a personal access token for clients without OAuth.
Pricing: the pricing page lists MCP among plan features but doesn't show prices or which plan includes it, as of October 2026 (Peec AI pricing).
Profound describes its server as "our hosted server for integrating with AI tools that support MCP", at https://mcp.tryprofound.com/mcp, and lists it as "Available on: the Enterprise plan" (Profound docs).
Tools: capability areas include visibility, sentiment, citations, shopping, agent analytics, prompts and projects.
Auth: an OAuth flow, or an API key for a long-lived credential (Profound: connect).
Which MCP servers read Google Search Console data?
Search Console servers let an agent read clicks, queries and index status for sites you manage. Google doesn't publish one, so they're community or vendor projects, and none can request indexing through the API. Our Google Search Console MCP servers compared page covers eight in detail, including quotas and auth. Two common picks:
07
mcp-gsc (AminForou)
mcp-gsc is a free, open-source Python server with 20 tools for properties, search analytics, URL inspection (up to 10 URLs per batch) and sitemaps. It signs in with your own Google account (OAuth) or a service account, and keeps add_site, delete_site and delete_sitemap disabled by default. Install: uvx mcp-search-console.
08
QuerySail
QuerySail is a hosted, read-only server at https://mcp.querysail.com/gsc/mcp with five tools: list_properties, get_performance, compare_performance, inspect_urls and list_sitemaps. You sign in with OAuth 2.1 and connect Google once; it costs $8 a month after a 7-day trial (QuerySail pricing).
Which MCP servers handle indexing and IndexNow?
Indexing servers act on what the others find: they check whether a URL is indexed and send it to search engines. FreshlyCited isn't the only indexing service with an MCP server, and none of these can make Google index a page; Google decides. They're listed alphabetically.
09
FreshlyCited
FreshlyCited checks whether Google has indexed each URL ("Seen by Google" or "Invisible"), pushes only the ones it hasn't seen (smart push: "Already seen — not pushed"), re-checks on day 1, 3 and 7, and for sites you verify with an IndexNow key also sends the change through IndexNow (an open "this page changed" notice that Bing and other participating engines accept; Google doesn't use it), shown as "Sent to Bing".
Tools:check_index, submit_index_job (up to 10,000 URLs per job, with smart push), IndexNow site tools and share_job_report. See the full MCP tool reference.
Auth: OAuth 2.1 or an API key at https://freshlycited.com/mcp.
Pricing: MCP access is on Agency Pro ($199/month) and Agency Scale ($599/month). Index credits are used only if a link is indexed; if it's still not indexed after the day-7 re-check, the credit comes back automatically. A standard check costs 1 check credit. The free tier (10 free links to try, then 100 free checks a month, no card) doesn't include MCP.
Limits: index checks are Google only, and FreshlyCited doesn't read Search Console or keyword data.
IndexLinks (indexlinks.app) sends new and updated pages "to Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam and Yep through IndexNow, Google through Search Console, and Baidu", and reports crawler visits per page.
Tools:check_site, list_websites, add_website, get_website_setup, verify_website, install_key_file, link_search_console, set_baidu_token, get_search_rankings, submit_pages, list_pages, get_page_status and request_feature (IndexLinks AI connector).
Auth: OAuth through the connector at https://mcp.indexlinks.app/mcp; its llms.txt also lists an API-key server at https://indexlinks.app/.well-known/mcp, where check_site and get_pricing are public.
Pricing: Solo is $49/month for one website and 1,000 pages a month; Studio is $299/month, as of October 2026.
indexnow-mcp is a free, open-source server listed on the official MCP Registry as io.github.sharozdawa/indexnow. Its tools are indexnow_submit, indexnow_submit_sitemap, indexnow_generate_key, indexnow_list_engines, google_indexing_submit and google_indexing_status.
Auth: you supply your IndexNow key and host; the Google tools need an access token.
Install:npx -y indexnow-mcp.
Limits: IndexNow accepts "up to 10,000 URLs per post" (IndexNow documentation), and you host the key file yourself. The Google tools call the Indexing API, which Google says "can only be used to crawl pages with either JobPosting or BroadcastEvent embedded in a VideoObject" (Google). For more on the protocol, read how IndexNow works.
12
Rapid Indexer (rapid-indexer.com)
Rapid Indexer (rapid-indexer.com) says its server lets an assistant "submit URLs to Googlebot, check whether pages are indexed, read task results and launch traffic campaigns" (Rapid Indexer MCP).
Tools:get_account, get_pricing, estimate_cost, submit_urls_for_indexing, index_and_verify, check_index_status, list_tasks, get_task, get_task_links, create_traffic_campaign, create_ctr_campaign, list_search_engines and check_service_health. It notes "Tools that create tasks spend credits immediately".
Auth: an API key in RAPID_INDEXER_API_KEY. Its official MCP Registry entry (com.rapid-indexer/mcp) also lists a remote endpoint.
Pricing: pay-as-you-go credits; the standard queue is listed "from $0.01 / URL" and link checking at $0.001 per URL, as of October 2026 (Rapid Indexer). Its FAQ says "A URL that Google does not index is not refundable."
Community IndexNow servers. The official MCP Registry also lists community IndexNow servers such as app.openkrill/indexnow (registry search). For indexing services compared on pricing and refunds rather than MCP, see our indexing tools compared page.
How do you connect several SEO MCP servers to one agent?
Most AI clients let you add as many servers as you like, and the agent picks tools from all of them. In Claude Code, add each one with claude mcp add; in Cursor, list them together in .cursor/mcp.json:
Semrush, Profound and FreshlyCited each document this URL-only Cursor setup and ask you to sign in with OAuth when you connect. Three things to watch:
Tool limits. Ahrefs notes that "Some MCP clients limit the amount of tools that an MCP server is allowed to advertise", which is why it offers tools=essentials and per-group loading. Connecting several large servers at once can hit those limits.
Spend. Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking calls use API units or credits, Otterly.AI counts MCP requests per month, and indexing tools spend credits on submissions. Ask the agent to estimate or confirm before large batches.
Write access. Several servers can change settings or send URLs. Use read-only scopes where they exist, and keep keys out of shared config files.
A typical SEO agent workflow chains them: a keyword server finds the target, the page gets written, a Search Console server shows whether Google has it, and an indexing server checks and pushes it. To have a coding agent do the last step after every deploy, add our AGENTS.md snippet; the FreshlyCited developer docs cover the rest. If your pages are published but you don't know which ones Google has seen, check your URLs free.
What can't an SEO MCP server do?
An SEO MCP server gives an agent the same data and actions as the tool's API, nothing more. It can't make Google index a page, and it can't make an AI assistant mention or cite you.
Indexing is Google's decision. The Search Console API has no method to request indexing, and Google's own Request indexing button comes with the note that "Submitting a request does not guarantee that the page will appear in the Google Index" (Search Console Help). Our guide to free ways to submit a URL to Google covers the manual routes.
IndexNow doesn't reach Google. As of October 2026, indexnow.org lists Bing, Yandex, Seznam.cz, Naver, Yep, Internet Archive and Amazonbot as participants; Google isn't one (IndexNow engines).
AI visibility data is a sample. Trackers record answers to the prompts you choose, on the dates they run. A tracker's MCP server reports those results; it doesn't change them.
How we chose
We started with the tools SEO teams already pay for, then searched the official MCP Registry, Glama and PulseMCP for SEO, Search Console, AI visibility and IndexNow servers. A server is listed if the vendor or maintainer documents it on their own site or repository, it was available on October 17, 2026, and its tools, auth and plan requirements are published well enough to compare. Every fact is from the vendor's own page, docs or repository, checked that day.
We left out generic keyword-data API resellers, third-party wrappers of another company's API (several Ahrefs and Semrush wrappers on the registry aren't from Ahrefs or Semrush), and servers whose sites we couldn't read or that didn't document their tools. We didn't benchmark data quality or speed, so we don't rank or rate anything. Where a vendor makes a claim about its own results, we've left it to the vendor's page. FreshlyCited's own details are on our API and MCP feature page.
An agent with the right servers can research, publish and track a page without leaving the chat. The step that's easy to skip is checking that Google actually has the page. Start free and run 100 index checks a month, no card needed.

Written for FreshlyCited, which helps Google and Bing find new and updated pages sooner. About FreshlyCited
An SEO agent is an AI assistant, such as Claude or Cursor, that runs SEO tasks by calling tools through MCP servers. What it can do depends entirely on the servers you connect: keyword data, AI visibility results, Search Console data or index checks.
Do SEO MCP servers cost extra?
Usually they come with a paid plan rather than as a separate product. Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking calls use the same API units or credits as their API, Otterly.AI counts MCP requests per month, and indexing tools spend credits on submissions. Open-source servers are free but need your own keys.
Can I use several SEO MCP servers at once?
Yes. Most clients accept several servers and the agent picks tools from all of them. Watch your client's tool limit, since large servers such as Ahrefs advertise many tools; Ahrefs lets you load only the groups you need.
Is FreshlyCited the only indexing tool with an MCP server?
No. As of October 2026, IndexLinks and Rapid Indexer also offer MCP servers, and community IndexNow servers are listed on the official MCP Registry. FreshlyCited's MCP access is on its Agency Pro and Agency Scale plans.
